If your kids are like my kids
they love TV, video games, chips, ice-cream and pizza. If you are a mom or dad
like me, the thought of the things they love makes you pull your hair out.
Here are some ways that I
have found to keep them grounded as I seek harmony in my life.
1.
Get them involved in family meetings and decisions. Their voice is important
and we want them to know that. Involving them in the discussions allows them to
feel empowered to speak up and make valuable contributions to conversations.
2.
Give them responsibilities and make them accountable. One of the things I did
not do earlier with my kids was give them little chores around the house. As
they grew older I found myself overwhelmed. Giving them responsibilities and
holding them accountable allowed them to make better decisions regarding
keeping the place clean and allowed them to take ownership of what they did or
did not do.
3.
Have them on a schedule. This is a game changer as it allows them to know what
comes next and what is expected. Getting them on a schedule will
develop them into disciplined children. They will hate it at first but they
will thank you later.
4.
Read to them and train them to read and enjoy reading. I am a busy person
and our morning commute is lengthy. This is an excellent time for reading. I
must admit, getting them to read in the car and having a no phone policy does
not go over well in the mornings, currently it is a developing habit.
I hope you enjoyed these tips.
